Downer Maintenance and ITS delivers complete maintenance services to over 10,000 kilometres of Victorian roads, including Melbourne’s busy M80 Ring Road, which we maintain through the Western Region Maintenance Contract with VicRoads, Northeast Victoria Road network for Department of Transport and Planning, and the local governments of Melton and Baw Baw.
We also have a well established and highly technical ITS construction delivery team in Victoria. Working with both public and private sector clients, we specialise in the implementation of on-roads ITS infrastructure, including smart infrastructure technology and software to maximise the performance of the network.
In Victoria, we’re especially proud of our partnership with social enterprise Good Cycles and the benefits we generate for local communities in region. We are now one of the largest buyers of social procurement in Australia through our commercial contract with Good Cycles to provide vegetation management and inspections of Shared User Paths in Melbourne’s north west.

Metropolitan North-West Region Road Maintenance Contract
Downer is responsible for the maintenance of road pavement and roadside assets on various arterial roads within Melbourne’s North West region. We provide routine maintenance delivery of the contract, including the identification of hazards and defects on the network via network inspection. This includes vegetation control, street sweeping, pavement repairs and emergency response (during and after hours).
Victorian Road Maintenance Contract - Hume Region
Downer delivers routine maintenance, planned maintenance, defect and hazard rectification and emergency response services to more than 8,500 lane kilometres of road in Victoria’s Hume region, stretching from Mitchell Shire on the edge of metropolitan Melbourne to the north-east corner of the State.
Baw Baw Shire Council
In Baw Baw, our focus has been to prioritise parts of the network that deliver the greatest benefit to the community and programmed grading work focuses on restoring parts of the older network.
ITS Maintenance
Downer undertakes proactive and preventative ITS maintenance including; 24/7 fault management, incident and emergency response for three Department of Transport ITS / Electrical contracts.
