Meet Amelia Welsh.

Amelia just finished up a three month cadetship with DM Roads.

She has been assisting with the delivery of the Cumberland Council contract as well as getting some practical experience with road maintenance on the PSMC contract.

During her time at DM Roads, she has been responsible for Scope of Work documents, analysing civil drawings to produce Bill of Quantities (BOQs), attending site visits, conducting Dial before you dig (DBYD), and corresponding with subcontractors to organize works.

She even got to learn about our ISO 55001 certified asset management systems and expanded and her knowledge about how roads are constructed.

“The key learning, I have taken away from my first rotation as a cadet at DM Roads is the importance of hands-on experience,” Amelia said.

“This rotation has further allowed me to gain an appreciation for the processes involved in the construction and maintenance of roads and footpaths,” said Amelia

The Downer Road Services Cadetship program is focused on building future leaders and offers university students the opportunity to challenge themselves on a variety of projects.

Cadets are required to work full time over university breaks and given the option to work casually throughout the semester for the length of their degree.

“I would highly recommend future civil engineers to complete the cadetship with DM Roads,” Amelia said.

“After only 3 months at DM Roads, I already have so many personal experiences to look back to that help me understand the subjects I am studying in my second university year.”
